Restorative Laser Dentistry

Providing pin point accuracy, Laser Dentistry is changing the face of the dental world.

Requiring no direct contact with your teeth or gums; Laser Dentistry eliminates the need for the drill and in most cases anaesthesia in dental treatment.

Benefits of Laser Dentistry

Laser Dentistry offers many benefits to patients. Some of the main advantages include:

  • Fewer Needles and Drills
  • Less Discomfort
  • Reduced Treatment Time
  • Faster Healing
  • Protects Against Further Decay
  • Less bleeding during and after surgery

Laser Dentistry for Hard Tissue Procedures

The ‘Erbium: YAG’ laser is what is used for so called ‘hard tissue’ procedures. This means that we use it for removing dental decay from a tooth or for removing old fillings which might need to be replaced.

We use the laser instead of ‘the drill’ – hence no high pitched noise or vibration associated with ‘drill’ produces. The laser is much, much gentler on the tooth than a conventional dental drill, and most laser treatments can be performed virtually painlessly, with no need for injections or similar. Although the laser is suitable for many procedures, it is not suitable for all situations. Sometimes more conventional therapies will need to be used.

Laser Dentistry for Soft Tissue Procedures

We use the KTP laser for soft tissue procedures. These may include: minor gum surgery (including periodontal treatment) , tissue biopsy and removal of minor lesions, reducing a ‘gummy smile’and many other applications. The wonderful thing about this laser is that such procedures can be performed with no need for sutures (stitches); almost no postoperative pain and no bleeding.

Certainly, no one likes the thought of having surgery of any kind (including gum surgery) but the laser will perform this with great improvements in success, comfort and healing compared to traditional soft tissue surgery.
